Avista Stadium's main concession stand total loss after early morning fire
SPOKANE — Firefighters were called to Avista Stadium early Friday morning due to a large fire in the main concession stand.
The fire broke out early Friday morning, and a KREM 2 News crew on the scene saw one of the walls of a building in front of the stadium collapse in the flames. There is currently no known cause of the fire.
Senior Vice President of the Spokane Indians Otto Klein said the fire is isolated to the main concession stand. There are no injuries reported from the fire. There is currently no known cause of the fire.
Klein said the main concession building that was on fire wasn't connected to any other building on the property.
With the stand being a complete loss, Klein said the team hopes to have it rebuilt before the start of next season.
Sean Barrett, battalion chief with the Spokane Valley Fire Department, confirmed to KREM 2 that the concession stand fire was located in the attic when they arrived on scene. Barrett said crews then started defensive fighting with ladder pipe operations.
Crews responding to the fire needed to be pulled out of the building because the roof was starting to collapse.
Fire officials say there might be small impacts to parking for the Spokane County Interstate Fair, but business should go as normal for fairgoers.
The Alki and Havana and Ferry and Havana intersections were blocked off for several hours while crews put out the flames. The roads have since reopened.
