Bones discovered in search for Travis Decker 'not human'

CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — Bones that were discovered last week during the FBI's search for Travis Decker were animal bones, investigators confirmed Wednesday.

Several other items recovered during the search of the Rock Island Campground are still being examined, The Wenatchee World first reported.

Though the search did not produce any new leads, investigators were able to gather more details as to how the girls were killed, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said.

"Finding this potential evidence emphasizes the value in having various teams search an area multiple times, especially in such challenging conditions," said W. Mike Herrington, special agent in charge of FBI Seattle.

Another large-scale search of the campground with federal partners is planned for some time this month, Morrison told FOX 13 Seattle.

Authorities have cautioned that final results of these investigations will take time.

More than 100 FBI Seattle agents and other law enforcement agents had taken part in a two-day search of the area where Decker's three daughters were found dead in June. The thirty-three-year-old is wanted for the murders of 9-year-old Paityn, 8-year-old Evelyn, and 5-year-old Olivia.

Law enforcement continues to actively search for Decker, who has evaded capture for nearly three months.
