There’s been a lot of misinformation about Mayor Ron Jacobson and his role in Post Falls city government — regarding housing and development. Let’s set the record straight.

The mayor of Post Falls does not approve or deny housing projects. Those decisions are made by the City Council after recommendations from planning staff and commissions. The mayor only votes in the rare case of a tie — something that’s happened just twice in Mayor Jacobson’s 12 years of service.

The mayor also doesn’t set the city budget or raise taxes. Budget and spending decisions are made collectively by the City Council with input from city staff. The mayor provides leadership and helps ensure those policies are implemented effectively.

The mayor’s real responsibilities center on vision and leadership — representing the city in regional and state matters, guiding city staff, ensuring services run smoothly, and uniting residents, businesses, and organizations around a shared future.
