GOOKIN: A fearless candidate

| October 26, 2025 1:00 AM

As Election Day nears, Coeur d’Alene faces growing challenges: Expanding budgets and the need for accountability. We need a mayor with expertise, respect and commitment to taxpayers. As a conservative Republican, I proudly support Dan Gookin.

Five years ago, I found Dan’s style too brash. But his actions changed my perspective, most especially during the North Idaho College crisis. The majority takeover of the NIC board by the very far-right faction of the KCRCC led to chaotic meetings, reckless spending, and a near-loss of accreditation, threatening jobs and our community. As a KCRCC committeeman, Dan stood apart, exposing mismanagement through public videos and testimony. His relentless advocacy helped stabilize NIC.

Dan’s experience as a “For Dummies” author equips him to distill complex issues with clarity. Since 2011, as a City Council member, he’s championed fiscal conservatism, protecting our neighborhoods and small businesses while scrutinizing large budgets with precision. Dan fearlessly asks tough questions of city staff, always respectfully, ensuring every dollar serves the public good. His track record shows he can shield our nonpartisan government from the extremism that nearly derailed NIC.

Coeur d’Alene deserves a mayor who listens to all voices and delivers common-sense solutions. Dan’s knowledge, experience, and integrity make him the clear choice. I urge voters to choose Dan Gookin on Nov. 5 to lead Coeur d’Alene with vision and accountability.
