Hunter charged by grizzly bear in Boundary County

BOUNDARY COUNTY — Idaho Fish and Game is advising extra caution following an interaction between a hunter and a grizzly bear on state land near the Canadian border earlier this week.

The hunter said he fired four rounds in self-defense after being charged by the bear Wednesday afternoon, according to the Boundary County Sheriff's Office. The hunter was uninjured.

While the bear was unable to be located and blood had not been found at the scene, BCSO said there is a "high likelihood" that an injured grizzly bear may be in the area near the junction of U.S. 95 and Highway 1.

Anyone who sees a bear in the area or signs of a deceased animal is asked to contact IDFG.
