PROCLAMATION: Kirk championed free exchange of ideas

| October 15, 2025 1:00 AM

I would like to offer a thank you to Mayor McEvers for signing the proclamation declaring the Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk. I know many people don’t agree with his political or religious views, but he promoted the free speech and public discourse that our nation was founded on.

It was interesting to me, reading the article in the Press, that many people who opposed the proclamation were quick to call him names and demonize his beliefs. Yet had they actually ever met him, or had a conversation with him, they would have seen that Charlie actually gave those who disagreed with him the opportunity to speak first.

Whether or not you agree with the man’s politics, the free exchange of ideas that he promoted is something we should all agree should continue.
