HAUG: The true conservative choice for Post Falls mayor

Both Post Falls Mayor Ron Jacobson and City Council member Randy Westlund pledged to practice fiscal responsibility in order to get elected. We believed in them and voted for them. However, since they took office, our taxes have soared. Last year, they raised our taxes by 7%, and this year, another 3%. Jacobson gave the nod for the increases, while Westlund lobbied for the increase by encouraging his fellow council members to support the tax hikes, claiming it was the responsible course of action. Now, both men are running for mayor and still identify as conservatives. By whose standards?

I was pleased to learn we have a third choice for mayor, a sound choice, a true conservative choice — Scot Haug. As the former Post Falls police chief, his leadership has been unmatched. His budgeting experience is extensive. I had the opportunity to meet with Scot and discuss my concerns. His plan to reduce the budget and streamline processes is exactly what Post Falls needs. There is growing concern regarding the potential for continued tax increases, particularly for those of us on a fixed income.
