KCSO investigating fatal motorcycle crash
POST FALLS — A Spokane man died early Sunday following a high-speed motorcycle crash, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
An Idaho State Police sergeant observed a motorcycle traveling at 117 mph on Interstate 90 near Spokane Street at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday. The sergeant activated emergency lights and sirens and attempted to catch up to the rider, officials said.
Shortly afterward, the motorcycle was found crashed in the roundabout at Prairie Avenue and Chase Road. The rider was located a short distance from the crash site.
The sergeant began lifesaving efforts, assisted by Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue personnel. Despite their efforts, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Eddie Martinez Lopez, 21, of Spokane, Wash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigation Unit.
