ELECTRICITY: How does growth affect rising costs?

| November 28, 2025 1:00 AM

Having received the KEC November newsletter, I will share my take on the issue of increasing costs for electricity. I have read and reread the article by Doug Elliot indicating new rates with a start date of January. The explanation is peak periods of usage, known as demand charges, have increased and will continue to increase up to 25% in the next three years.

I did not read in the article anything about the explosive growth in our area, contributing to the power needs in our county and elsewhere.

How is this growth issue not factored in, or explained, in their need for rate increases? We now have a population of 191,409, which was 171,362 in 2020 according to the census. Why isn’t KEC mentioning this growth and factoring in these power needs in our area? Where can the public get the “whole news and nothing but the news?”
