COMMON SENSE: Don’t label others

A recent (common sense) article by the KCRCC Chair creates a false dichotomy, classifying Idaho Republicans as either “Neocon Establishment” or “Common-Sense MAGA.” Our party is far more than that. We are farmers, veterans, small-business owners, constitutional conservatives and everything in between. Oversimplified framing doesn’t unite our community; it fractures neighborhoods.

The chairman asserts former state leadership failed when he filed a lawsuit; it alleged Bonneville County violated GOP rules by making unauthorized contributions outside its jurisdiction. Misrepresenting or omitting this context undermines credibility and fuels a narrative built on distortion rather than facts.

Effective leaders work to heal division, not weaponize it. Criticizing others for spreading false narratives while using those same tactics is sanctimonious. In the article, claims and sweeping allegations are presented without evidence. An example of false framing: walkouts at conventions are a common form of protest, not evidence of conspiracy. In a political climate already filled with misinformation, we should insist on proof. Accusations must be supported by transparent and verifiable facts.

We should be cautious when fellow Republicans are labeled with incendiary, derogatory terms. Idaho Republicans deserve a party that welcomes debate and dissent, not one that punishes it. Conservative leadership should reduce division, protect freedom of speech and dissent, and uphold transparency.

Substandard leaders resort to falsely framing every disagreement negatively. Idaho has real issues to address: economy, growth, safeguarding children, education, and affordability. Leaders do the state a disservice when they focus more on internal power struggles than on solving the problems facing Idaho families. It is time to set aside rhetorical flamethrowers and refocus on the people of Idaho.
