Lighting Ceremony Parade rolls Friday

The 33rd annual Lighting Ceremony Parade will feature more than 50 entries in downtown Coeur d'Alene on Friday.

This year’s theme, "Candy Cane Lane," will fill Sherman Avenue with sweet, candy-themed parade entries full of peppermint stripes, gumdrop floats and gingerbread houses. Entries will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland where candy comes to life.

Parade entries have the chance to be awarded the "Best Lights" and the "Best use of Theme" awards.

The parade is organized by the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association and presented by ICCU. It begins at 5 p.m. at Eighth Street and Sherman Avenue and travels west to Government Way and Northwest Boulevard.

About 30,000 people are expected to line downtown streets.

Following the parade, the Hagadone Corporation’s Lighting Ceremony at The Coeur d'Alene Resort will begin with carols, a fireworks display and the flipping of the switch for more than a million lights.
