NORTONS: Silverwood gift to North Idaho
Thank you for the editorial regarding Gary Norton, and Silverwood’s positive impact upon guests both local and those visiting North Idaho.
We’ve never had to experience waking up to read an article of a serious accident and/or a death of one of Silverwood’s guests.
There is a reason for such a clean record when compared to other theme parks across the country and world. Gary Norton and company have brought great joy and smiles to hundreds of thousands of guests.
Most are not aware that Silverwood’s great record is due to Gary Norton’s personal commitment to the health and safety of Silverwood’s employee’s and guests.
I met Gary Norton in 1993. I’ve been an expert in non-destructive testing for decades.
When I met Gary Norton, he suggested that I go beyond testing components recommended by the manufacturers. He requested that I, and his mechanical engineer, evaluate all of Silverwood’s rides and test all components that we determined could cause a serious injury or death, to guests and employees. Gary Norton took the approach that he wanted to ensure that all components and/or welds, critical to the safety and health of his guests and employees, were found and corrected.
I was surprised at Mr. Norton’s suggestion as it would certainly cost more. Mr. Norton created this culture of protecting health and safety of all involved. His employee’s embraced this culture.
Besides making me smile with all of the fun rides, my smile broadens knowing safety was never compromised. Thank you, Norton Family!
