INDEPENDENTS: Needed more than ever

Kathleen Painter wrote a great letter last week. She contends that electing Independents instead of Republicans or Democrats would fix our broken system.

Rampant illegal immigration was not Biden’s fault. The immigration system was broken for years and Congress has refused to fix it while under both Republican and Democratic presidents. We should look at Canada’s system, which works for them and could work for us.

Two things we need desperately to fix this country are term limits for the Senate, the House, and the Supreme Court. There should be a strict age limit on all federal positions, such as 65. Presidential candidates should be no older than 60.

Limiting corporate money flowing into elections should be stopped. I realize the Supreme Court said a corporation was a “person” but that is ridiculous. Surely a new court will fix that in the future. Limiting individual money flowing into elections should also be regulated. What could fix these problems is setting aside funds so that all candidates running for the House and Senate would have the same amount of money with which to campaign. The length of campaigns should be shortened to three months.

When there are more than two parties and people are elected from several parties, then no party has the majority and members of Congress would be forced to work together to get anything passed. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

What can we do? Encourage Independents to run and vote for them.
