Woman dies in I-90 crash near Cataldo

The Idaho State Police is investigating a fatality collision, which occurred Saturday at approximately 1:55 p.m.

According to an ISP press release, a black Mazda CX-5 was traveling westbound on Interstate 90, near milepost 40. The Mazda, driven by a 25-year-old male from Lolo, Mont., failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The vehicle left the roadway at the right shoulder and traveled along the roadside, where it then overturned. A 25-year-old female passenger, from Missoula, Mont., was ejected from the vehicle.

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police responded. The female passenger was transported, via air ambulance, to a nearby hospital. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital via ground transportation. The female later died at the hospital.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, according to the press release.

At the scene of the crash, the roadway was restricted to one lane for construction. The single lane of travel was blocked for approximately one hour.

This investigation is ongoing.
