WORLEY — A single-vehicle injury crash has led to a criminal investigation by the Coeur d'Alene Tribal Police.

Just after 6 a.m. Thursday, Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police attempted to stop a 2018 BMW 440 for traveling at an extremely high rate of speed on U.S. 95 north of Worley.

The vehicle fled southbound after officers first attempted to stop it, according to a press release from Idaho State Police. Coeur d’Alene Tribal officers then initiated a pursuit to try and stop the vehicle but discontinued a short time later due to the high speeds. Several minutes later, a report came in that vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into the Worley Liquor Store.

Officers arrived on scene to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the parking lot. They were able to extinguish the flames enough to extricate both occupants, two juvenile males from Spokane Valley.

While the passenger was wearing a seat belt, the driver was not. Both were transported to an area hospital.

Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police is handling the criminal investigation while ISP continues to investigate the crash.
