Silverwood raises over $38K for food banks

Silverwood Theme Park recently donated more than $38,000 to support local food banks.

In September, Silverwood Theme Park hosted Community Appreciation Weekends, raising funds for food programs in the Inland Northwest.

The park contributed $4 from every general admission ticket and $1 from youth and senior tickets to the cause.

By the end of the season, Silverwood had successfully raised $38,120, which was recently distributed among ABC Food Bank in Athol, 3rd Avenue Marketplace in Post Falls, Second Harvest in Spokane, Community Action Partnership in Coeur d’Alene and Bonner Community Food Bank in Sandpoint.

“We’re thrilled to see such a generous response and were able to match our total from last season,” Silverwood public relations manager Sara Meddock said in a Wednesday news release. “We have to give our local region a huge thank you for their support in September, which helped our Community Appreciation Weekends succeed.”

Meddock and Silverwood marketing director Jordan Carter met with representatives from the local food banks Oct. 23 to distribute the checks and discuss current needs.

Each representative agreed that canned goods, non-perishable proteins and nutritious grains are in demand.

“The supply just isn’t meeting the demand,” Meddock said, “and as we near the holiday season, that demand is only going to continue to rise.”

Silverwood’s donation will help cover the food banks’ infrastructure, providing updates to facilities, gasoline to support food deliveries and growth.
