GIVENS: Our deepest sympathy

It was with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of Jeanne Givens, a dear friend and former member of the KCTFHR Board. She leaves behind a legacy of tremendous accomplishments. 

She was a leader and model especially for women and the Native American community. Among her many achievements were her service on the KCTFHR Board to expand board seats for minority members, opposed the doctrine and threats from the Aryan Nations, and successfully supported the KCTFHR proposed anti-crime legislation as a member of the Idaho House of Representatives. 

During her six years as an elected member of the North Idaho College Board of Trustees including as chair part of the time, she worked diligently to reach an agreement between the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and the college, strongly opposed the increase in student tuition and fees keeping cost down for low income students, embraced human rights curricula, encouraged a collaborative governance policy among all NIC’s employees and students, used her contacts to bring prominent speakers to campus for the NIC Popcorn Forum and NIC-TV PBS Public Forum interviews, and assisted positive contacts between the college and state elected officials. She knew how to bring all groups to the table. 

She served on numerous local, state and national boards. 

Most of all she was a kind, loving, caring, giving and humanitarian individual to her family and all those she met on her journey. 

We extend our deepest sympathy to her family and may she rest in peace.
