Reverse Elevation rallies to victory in Race the Joe!

ST. MARIES — For the second year in a row, Team Reverse Elevation, led by Captain Tanner Foelich, won Race the Joe! after pulling away from the fleet. 

The team hails from Canada and raced to victory over 200 river miles Saturday and Sunday in the international race. 

Race Director Shirley Ackerman said this year, there were two new teams from the U.S. and two new teams from Canada entering the competition. 

“It’s a favorite race for returning boating competitors, and that really warms our hearts,” Ackerman said. “It continues to be a fabulous community event.” 

Originally, there were 14 boats competing in the race this year, but not all of the teams were able to complete all of the legs of the race. 

“Mother Nature could have been a little sweeter to us with the hail both days,” Ackerman said. “The sun would come out and then we’d have another storm.” 

Ackerman said logistics for next year’s races are still being worked out, but Idaho will host the 2026 UIM World Championship marathon jet boat race for a course of over 475 river miles.
