Montana murder suspect arrested in Coeur d’Alene
COEUR d’ALENE — Local police have arrested a man suspected of murder in Montana.
Cody Rencurel, 36, was arrested May 9 in Coeur d’Alene on charges of deliberate homicide in the death of 35-year-old Dixie Schroeder, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
The criminal investigation began May 7 in Havre, Mont., after police responded to a report of a deceased woman, later identified as Schroeder. Police “suspected foul play was involved,” according to the Havre Police Department, and requested assistance from the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
Investigators identified Rencurel as a person of interest in the case, according to the Havre Police Department, and determined that he was in possession of Schroeder’s vehicle, which was in the Coeur d’Alene area.
After Hill County prosecutors obtained a warrant for Rencurel’s arrest, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and the Coeur d’Alene Police Department assisted in taking him into custody. KCSO indicated that Rencurel was staying in a Coeur d’Alene hotel at the time of his arrest.
“Evidence located during the arrest and subsequent search of Rencurel’s property indicated additional violent crimes were being planned,” the Havre Police Department said in a news release.
Rencurel remains in custody in the Kootenai County jail and will be transferred to Montana in the near future.
