208Massage&Spa set to open at new location
COEUR d’ALENE — For some time, Karin Smith was a one-woman show.
A massage therapist of 24 years, Smith started 208Massage&Spa in an office space just after pandemic-related restrictions were lifted in North Idaho in May 2020.
Within three to four months, Smith was completely booked and already in need of a larger space to grow her business.
By December of that same year, Smith moved into 208Massage&Spa’s current location in midtown Coeur d’Alene and hired a second massage therapist in mid-2021.
“It’s always scary to take that leap,” Smith said. “Probably the scariest thing was adding on a new employee, because for so long it had always just been me.”
Now, after growing both the midtown space and her team over the past few years, Smith is embarking on the next chapter of 208Massage&Spa by moving into a much larger space on Appleway Avenue.
The new facility is almost 3,000 square feet, and houses larger treatment rooms, a couple’s massage room, a private infrared sauna suite that can hold up to three people and a salt therapy room — one of the only ones in the area, Smith said.
“Introducing (the salt room) to the area will be a fun challenge because it’s new,” Smith said.
208Massage&Spa will also begin offering manicures and pedicures within a month or so.
Smith believes the new facility “(brings) a different spa environment to the area” with an emphasis on creating a welcoming atmosphere with added North Idaho flair.
Treatment rooms, for example, are all named after area lakes and landmarks.
“It’s ‘day spa meets Yellowstone,’” Smith said. “We wanted to create a beautiful location that everyone feels welcome and safe to come to.”
208Massage&Spa will offer $20 discounts on services and products to all military, first responders and their spouses.
The grand opening of 208Massage&Spa’s new facility is slated for Saturday, May 17, from noon to 4 p.m. at 714 W. Appleway, in the same building as Asthma and Allergy of Idaho.
The first 50 attendees will receive goodie bags of products and prizes, and all products and services will be discounted. Local vendors will also be on site, and up to $500 in prizes will be up for grabs in a raffle.
