BASEBALL: Lake City should be ranked higher
Why is Coeur d’Alene High School seeded higher than Lake City High School? Lake City won two of three against in the District Tournament. Lake City should be a 4 seed and Coeur d’Alene a 6 or 7 seed in the State rankings. With the 4 seed given by MaxPrep, Coeur d’Alene now gets a bye in the Regional Tournament and gets a first game bye. Lake City is scheduled to play the first game against Highland, and if they win then to play a second game that same day, against Coeur d’Alene. (Oh, congratulations, you lost two of three and you get a bye.) If anything, Lake City should have a higher seeding and Coeur d’Alene should be in the position of the doubleheader.
It appears as if the Idaho High School Activities Association disrespects the two 6A high schools in North Idaho. The quality of 6A baseball in North Idaho may be better than the IHSAA believes. The 6A winner in North Idaho should host the Regional Tournament, as now is the case, and the second place team should travel to play elsewhere. There might be two North Idaho teams who make it to the State Tournament.
