Saturday hike at Cougar Bay Nature Preserve
People are welcome to join the Inland Northwest Land Conservancy for a hike at Cougar Bay Nature Preserve at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Join volunteer docent Mark Merhab for a beautiful hike along the John C. Pointner Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary Trail.
The trail follows the shore of Cougar Bay and offers sites and sounds of many waterfowl and aquatic wildlife.
The trail continues through fir, tamarack and pine forested slopes, up to a viewing platform overlooking Cougar Bay and Coeur d’Alene.
The 2.5-mile hike has an elevation gain of about 400 feet. It should take around two hours to complete.
"This hike is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, in a beautiful natural habitat on the northwest side of Lake Coeur d’Alene, and have open discussions about the importance of conserving lands," a press release said.
