Woman-owned coffee shop Bean & Bubb now open in Rathdrum
RATHDRUM — Since taking her first job as a barista 12 years ago, Kahlaila Van-Dalen knew she wanted to open her own café.
That dream recently came true as she opened her first brick-and-mortar coffee shop on Vera Street called Bean & Bubb Coffee.
Van-Dalen's menu includes coffee, tea lattes, Red Bull and Lotus energy drinks and five flavors of bubble tea — a unique offering from Bean & Bubb.
Bean & Bubb began as a coffee trailer in 2022 as Van-Dalen waited for a perfect space to become available.
While the name is a tribute to the nicknames of her children, a customer at the coffee trailer pointed out that the name has a double meaning.
“It’s also like coffee beans and bubble tea,” Van-Dalen said.
Having grown up in North Idaho, Van-Dalen has seen firsthand how Rathdrum and its neighbors have evolved. She believes opening a woman-owned business is more important than ever as the local business scene continues to grow.
“I want to bring more of that kind of diversity into Rathdrum and North Idaho, for people to keep bringing in new and exciting things,” Van-Dalen said.
Van-Dalen also intended to fill a need in the community of Rathdrum with the opening of Bean & Bubb — to create a space where people can spend their time, whether it be working alone or meeting up with others.
“I think that’s a really good thing to have here in Rathdrum,” Van-Dalen said. “Somewhere that has free internet, and to come get a break from working in your house.”
Bean & Bubb has also already become a hub for area high schoolers. Students get a dollar off on drinks from 2 to 4 p.m. Weekly deals also include different daily discounted drinks.
Bean & Bubb is located at 15580 Vera St., Rathdrum and is open daily: 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
