Downtown survey kickoff on Tuesday

| March 13, 2025 1:00 AM

A kickoff for a Reconnaissance Survey of downtown Coeur d'Alene is scheduled at noon Tuesday in the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Community Room.

The public is welcome to join consultant Diana Painter, members of Coeur d'Alene’s Historic Preservation Commission, city staff and representatives from the State Historic Preservation Office to learn about the effort and ask questions.

The survey will assess the overall characteristics of the area's environment, identify the age of the structures, architectural styles, building features, historic objects, potential historic properties and "could be used to help determine a boundary for a future possible historic district," according to the city. "It does not designate properties as historic or affect property rights."

The survey is funded by a Certified Local Government grant. Field work will be done in April through September. A Historic Context and Survey Report will be produced and a presentation will be made by the consultant to the Historic Preservation Commission next year.

A public meeting to share results will take place during the spring-summer of 2026. The final report will be completed by September 2026.

The survey boundaries are roughly First Street to the west, as far as Eighth Street to the east, as far as Front Avenue to the south and Indiana Avenue to the north.
