TAX CUTS: Ever-increasing federal deficit
What is it that makes America “great?” Is it bullying our neighbors? Is it threatening other nations while cozying up to authoritative regimes? Is it oppressing marginalized people within our borders? Is it enacting legislation that takes money from those who have the least and gives it to those who don’t need it? Is it denying those who are in need access to the help that we can provide for them, both within our nation and across the world? Are these the marks of a great nation? Or perhaps it is a smokescreen meant to divert our attention from what is being done to our government.
Our current administration seems very focused on cutting any spending so as to enable tax cuts that will mostly reward those who already have benefitted from tax policies first implemented under the Reagan administration. Those tax policies never achieved the economic growth “which would pay for them” and, instead, have led to an ever-increasing federal deficit as well as an ever-widening wealth inequality gap within our nation. In biblical times, the fields were left with some unharvested grain that the poor could glean so as to have some form of sustenance. Now we have DOGE stripping those fields bare so that those who have much can have even more. There is plenty for everyone, just not enough for the few. Tax the rich.
