Spring Dash benefits ALICE population

| March 5, 2025 1:00 AM

The Spring Dash, a fundraiser for United Way of North Idaho, is scheduled April 26.

The event offers a 5K, 10K and a half marathon, along with a Tot Trot.

Since 1982, Spring Dash has been the kickoff to the running season in North Idaho. All courses are out and back on paved surfaces with the start and finish at McEuen Park.

"These are relatively flat and fast courses that take in the scenic beauty of Lake Coeur d'Alene," said the United Way website.

The half marathon is $75, the 10K is $55, the 5K is $35 and the Tot Trot is $10.

The registration fees will go to help the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population in the community.

"The ALICE population represents those among us who are working but due to child care costs, transportation challenges, high cost of living, and so much more, are living paycheck to paycheck," according to United Way. "They are working hard but falling short of what they need to consistently cover the basic costs of living. Unable to save for the future, they are vulnerable to a single emergency that can push them into crisis and even poverty."

The Spring Dash is billed as a chance to join forces "for people in need right here in our community."
