FIREWORKS: Sarcasm or not?

| June 27, 2025 1:00 AM

To coin an express off a very old commercial. “Is it sarcasm or is it Memorex.” Reading Josh Calderwood letter published June 25. Initially I thought it was very well done — the use of sarcasm to make a point. Mr. Calderwood states that we should not care about anyone else but to light off double the amount of fireworks this year. Who care about how the noise might affect others.

Later I reread the letter and thought. Could he be serious? Then why not grab your shotgun and blast some birdshot into the air around your neighborhood. Oops that would be against the law. Or speed down SR 95 at 100 MPH. Who cares if it bothers some. I want to have fun. But again that would be illegal. Or shoot the occasional buck who walks down the street. Yet again…

So Mr. Calderwood if you were being sarcastic — well done. If not…
