Sunrise Rotary highlights generational shift with passing of gavel

COEUR d’ALENE — The Sunrise Rotary Club of Coeur d’Alene marked a milestone Tuesday as outgoing President Jane Wilkey passed the gavel to incoming President Christopher Dallenbach.

“These two embody what the future of Rotary looks like — thoughtful, committed, energized leaders who care deeply about people and community," said longtime Sunrise Rotary member and two-time past president LaDonna Beaumont.

Wilkey made history in 2024 as the youngest president in the club’s history, taking on the role at just 25 years old. 

“Born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, I have truly been blessed by this vibrant community that thrives on giving back,” said Wilkey. “It’s a blessing to be a blessing.” 

Under her leadership, the club raised $14,677 in grants to support both local and international nonprofits, extending Rotary’s reach and influence across the globe. She also introduced a weekly “Rotary Report,” highlighting inspiring stories from clubs doing exceptional work around the world. 

And she kept the spirit of fun alive with the return of the Dwight Bershaw Memorial .5K Fun Run — The Race for the Rest of Us, a fan-favorite tradition.

"During her tenure, she led with energy, creativity, and a deep commitment to meaningful impact," a press release said. 

Wilkey currently serves on the boards of the Coeur d’Alene High School Booster Club and Sunrise Rotary Club of Coeur d’Alene and professionally supports the executive team at Northwest Specialty Hospital as an administrative assistant. 

Stepping into the role of club president is Christopher Dallenbach, 36, now the second youngest person to lead the club.

With more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, Dallenbach began his career at Penaluna and Company, later joining Merrill Lynch before transitioning to Raymond James in May 2020 as part of the Coeur Private Wealth Management team. 

“I’m honored to carry forward the work Jane and so many before her have done to make our community stronger,” said Dallenbach. “Sunrise Rotary is a place where leaders come together to give back — and I’m excited to help guide that mission.” 

Originally from Rathdrum, Dallenbach lives in Post Falls with his wife, Diana, their daughter, Opal, and their golden retriever, Ember. Outside the office, he enjoys snowboarding, scuba diving, running obstacle course races and playing soccer. He serves on the board of the Coeur d’Alene Adult Soccer League. 

"In a time when many civic, service, and community organizations are experiencing a generational gap, particularly a lack of engagement from people in their 20s and 30s, this leadership transition is especially inspiring," the release said. "Seeing two young professionals not only join but step up to lead is a powerful reminder that the next generation is ready to serve."
