Clydesdales heading to the North Idaho State Fair

COEUR d’ALENE — The Budweiser Clydesdales are headed to the North Idaho State Fair in August.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to bring the Budweiser Clydesdales to our market,” Annie Pfinsgraff, vice president of Watkins Distributing, said in a June 17 press release. “They are true ambassadors of the Budweiser brand.”

The Clydesdales’ visit to Coeur d’Alene is one of hundreds of appearances made annually by teams of traveling hitches based out of Anheuser-Busch’s headquarters in St. Louis, Mo.

The horses have been a beloved symbol of Anheuser-Busch since 1933, when a team of Clydesdales was presented to August A. Busch Sr. to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. Since then, they’ve become cultural icons, appearing in Super Bowl commercials, major parades and even two U.S. presidential inaugurations, the press release said.

Their upcoming appearance at the North Idaho State Fair ties in with this year’s theme, “Keeping Tradition Alive.”

Fair General Manager Alexcia Jordan said the arrival of the Clydesdales is a celebration of heritage.

She noted that the horses symbolize “American tradition, pride and the power of community."

Jerry Johnson, fair board chairman, said the Clydesdales are a natural fit for the fair’s longstanding mission to honor agricultural roots and rural traditions.

“The fair has always been a place where history and community come together,” he said, “and welcoming the Budweiser Clydesdales only strengthens that connection.”

Visitors will have several opportunities throughout the fair to see the Clydesdales, with appearance dates and times to be announced soon. The fair runs Aug. 15-24.
