DANGER: Debris at Atlas Mill River Park

This weekend, a large log embedded with rusted bolts and metal plates washed ashore at Atlas Mill River Park — right at the main waterfront steps where people enter and exit the river. The log appears to have come loose from the boundary marking the designated swimming area, which is made up of similar logs chained between wooden poles offshore.

It now rests directly at the waterline, blocking access and posing a serious safety hazard. The bolts and hardware stick up several inches — exactly where people are most likely to walk barefoot.

This isn’t just unsightly — it’s dangerous. With summer crowds growing, someone could be seriously injured. I urge the city or parks department to remove the debris and inspect the remaining swim boundary logs for damage before more people get hurt.
