RAD GRADS An equation for success

John “Jack” Kennedy’s mind has always been drawn to mathematics like an irresistible force.

It helps him make sense of the universe.

“I love math,” Jack said. “It’s always something I have been good at. It’s not just pure mathematics. The deeper I get into the subject, I have found math can describe something in the real world, and I like that.”

His math skills have propelled him to greater academic success. Jack earned a 4.45 GPA and is one of Lake City High School’s salutatorians. He plans to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., in the fall to study physics.

“I am hoping to be a public researcher in physics,” Jack said. “I picked Purdue because of their math department, which is excellent.”

Jack said he is happy to receive top academic honors.

“It feels good to be a salutatorian,” he said. “I spent a lot of time just doing school. I knew it was always possible, but it wasn’t a drive of mine until my senior year.”

Jack has excelled in the debate club and speech. He qualified for the state competitions and did well. He also participated in cross country for two years.

“I am also interested in political science, and I hope to learn more about it in college,” he said.

His toughest course during his high school career was Advanced Placement U.S. history due to the heavy course load.

Jack doesn’t have one favorite memory of his time at Lake City. He fondly remembers his English teachers.

“I have been close to my English teachers and friends in those classes,” he said. “Those are fun memories.”
