LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes sweeps Moscow again

SPIRIT LAKE — Jace Taylor went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored as the Northern Lakes Mountaineers beat the Moscow Blue Devils 18-0 in Class A North Idaho League play Sunday, in the first game of a doubleheader at John Shaffer Field. 

Northern Lakes (4-0, 2-0 NIL) won the second game 12-2, sweeping Moscow for the second straight Sunday. 

In the first game, Eric Wylie hit a three-run triple in a seven-run second inning for Northern Lakes and finished with four RBIs. Grant Allaway added three RBIs, and Tadhg Ellwood was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. 

In the second game, Cooper Lenz went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and four runs scored for the Mountaineers. Wylie was 3 for 4, and Allaway struck out seven in four innings, and also drove in two runs. 

Northern Lakes plays host to Prairie on Tuesday in a North Idaho League game.

Whitworth showcase 

SPOKANE — The Prairie Cardinals “A” team reached the championship game of the Whitworth Prospect Series on Sunday, before falling 10-8 to the Northwest Bison 17U at Whitworth University.

Bryce Berger went 3 for 3 with a two-run single in the first inning for Prairie (9-4), which trailed 9-4 after three innings before battling back and bringing the tying run to the plate in the seventh. 

Mason Perkins had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cardinals. 

Earlier, Prairie rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat the Sandpoint 17U team 5-4. 

James Morast drew a bases-loaded walk to score Grady Stinson with the go-ahead run for the Cardinals. Isaiah Kearney had two hits and scored two runs for Prairie, and Gavin Wienker had two hits. 

Prairie plays at Northern Lakes on Tuesday in a Class A North Idaho League game.
