Capsule from year 2000 holds treasures from yesteryear

Former Canfield Middle School students opened a time capsule Monday that had been sealed for 25 years.

They discovered a treasure trove of memories.

One of the highlights from the capsule was a newspaper wedding announcement from for Jodi and Chad Booth.

“We’re still married,” they exclaimed in unison. The Booths are both teachers. Jodi teaches at Canfield and Chad at Lakes Middle School.

Other items from the time capsule included student IDs, popular magazines, music compact discs and an unopened "Austin Powers" VHS tape. The items appeared to be in relatively good shape. The hard plastic time capsule was ensconced in concrete and buried in front of the middle school. It was quite an ordeal breaking the capsule free of the concrete.

As current Canfield students observed, student poetry and letters from that era were read aloud. Those students from 2000 expressed hope for the future, which drew applause and smiles.
