National Night Out returns

COEUR d’ALENE — Neighborhoods throughout the community are invited to join National Night Out next week.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office will host a National Night Out event from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at McIntire Family Park, 8930 N. Government Way in Hayden.
Local first responders will display the equipment they use and answer questions. The event will also include K-9 demonstrations and a helicopter landing. The sheriff’s office volunteer search and rescue unit will serve free meals.
“This is a family-friendly event promoting public safety and building community relationships,” a news release said.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6, Coeur d’Alene residents are encouraged to meet police officers at McEuen Park.
“Local police officers and city officials will also be present to talk with residents, strengthening community bonds and promoting safety,” a news release said.
National Night Out is an annual campaign that aims to promote partnerships between police and the communities they serve. This year, the event will involve more than 16,000 communities across all 50 states, as well as in U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In Idaho, more than a dozen cities will participate.
