Nilson joins TEN Capital Wealth Advisors as a financial adviser
TEN Capital Wealth Advisors, a team of local investment advisors focused on helping individuals, families, and businesses achieve financial confidence through personalized planning and investment strategies, has appointed Mike Nilson as their newest financial advisor in Spokane.
Nilson spent the last two decades as director of Performance & Nutrition for his alma mater, Gonzaga University, where he was a well-known basketball star. During his tenure, Nilson trained hundreds of collegiate and professional athletes, blending science, psychology and service. However, bodies were not the only things built by Nilson. Additionally, he co-founded U-District Physical Therapy where he helped grow a single clinic into a respected name in Spokane health care.
Nilson is now ready to reach new horizons and help build different legacies for families in Washington. So, he’s bringing the same commitment and personal connection to his financial advising role with TEN Capital.
“This is the start of an exciting new season for me,” Nilson said. “While I’ve stepped away from coaching in the weight room, I’m still deeply committed to helping people grow — now by supporting their future financial goals, helping to protect what they’ve already built, and giving back to my community in meaningful ways.”
“I believe small actions lead to big results,” Nilson added. “Whether it’s health, relationships, or finances — consistency matters.”
You can find Nilson continuing his commitment to helping others through his work at TEN Capital, where he supports individuals and families in their pursuit of financial clarity, long-term well-being, and overall happiness. He has also shared his philosophy on growth and discipline through his longtime podcast, Hoop Commitment.

The NSTA Leadership Council is a national governing body comprised of education leaders from across the country. As a district leader, McKenna will play a key role in advancing science education, supporting professional communities and guiding national strategy in STEM teaching.
“At NSTA, our mission is powered by passionate, purpose-driven educators who are shaping the future of science education,” said NSTA Interim Chief Executive Officer Bob Lay in a press release. “I’m honored to welcome these leaders to our governing body. Their insight, experience and dedication will be instrumental as we continue our work to elevate and transform science education to benefit all.”
McKenna said his appointment as a regional leader helps give voice to science teachers and students in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
“This appointment means we get to help current and future educators become change agents within their school districts and communities,” McKenna said. “For me, I get to play small role in shaping our new teachers and help them engage their own students in their classrooms.”
McKenna said three key areas over the next three years are professional learning, building strong partnerships and advocating for students.
“It will also be exciting to connect with science educators across our region and see the amazing things they are doing in their classrooms and communities,” McKenna said.
U of I Coeur d’Alene CEO Andrew Fields said McKenna is an outstanding choice for the national role.
“Dr. McKenna’s leadership, vision, commitment to educational excellence and dedication to students will benefit the NSTA and science teachers and students across the U.S.,” Fields said. “We’re very proud to see his work recognized at this level and excited for the impact his voice will have in shaping science education policy and practices.”
