Moscow to release some Kohberger reports following July 23 sentencing

| July 17, 2025 3:50 PM

The city of Moscow will be making some reports from the Kohberger investigation available to the public.

Easing access to these reports will "reduce burn on the city's limited staff," a release read.

Investigation reports "that have not been sealed by the Court" will be available following the July 23 sentencing of Bryan Kohberger. Kohberger pleaded guilty July 2 to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary in the deaths of University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.

"Until sentencing is completed, all investigatory records for this case remain protected from release pursuant to Idaho Code §§ 74-105(1), 74-124(1)(a), (b) and 74-124(3)," the release said.

Any public record requests for investigative records received before the sentencing has been concluded will be denied.

The city described the volume of investigative records as "substantial," and said that they must first be reviewed to determine if they are exempt or contain exempt and protected personal information under the Idaho Public Records Act. Some information may also be subject to judicial seal.

The city will establish a website where these investigative reports will be posted once it is legally permitted. The city will release additional information on accessing the website once it becomes available.

The release noted that reports and other records created by other law enforcement agencies are property of said agencies and will not be accessible through the website.

"Any request through those records should be directed to those agencies," the release read.
