Nettleton Gulch fire fully contained
The 23-acre Nettleton Gulch Fire by Canfield Mountain is 100% contained, the Idaho Department of Lands said Friday.
Operations will wrap up with demobilization of personnel and equipment backhaul. Suppression repair efforts are also underway, with a focus on minimizing the impact of firefighting efforts and returning the impacted area to its natural state, a press release said.
There were 90 personnel present at the site to assist with the fire with four engines, four hand crews and four water tenders.
The Nettleton Gulch fire was reported Sunday near the popular recreation area Canfield Mountain. Officials said it was intentionally started by Wess Roley, the suspect in the fatal shooting of two firefighters and wounding of a third.
Roley was found dead on Canfield Mountain hours later after exchanging gunfire with law officers. Officials said he committed suicide.
A fire investigation is being led by the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office, in partnership with IDL and ATF.
Closures in the area remain in place.
"For your safety and the safety of our crews, please give the right of way to firefighting aircraft and helicopters dipping water from area waterways," a press release said.
