LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes wraps up top seed to districts
POST FALLS — Jace Taylor allowed one hit over seven innings, striking out 12 for Northern Lakes, which clinched the Class A North Idaho League title and top-seed to the district tournament with a 9-1 win over the Prairie Cardinals at Brett James Memorial Field on Wednesday.
Gavin Wienker allowed four hits in 5.1 innings for Prairie.
“It was a really fast game,” Northern Lakes coach Bryce Johnson said. “Both kids threw the ball really well. It was really best on best for a while and the game kind of flew by. We were able to get to Gavin a little bit. We were able to put the ball in play, but he can throw it really well.”
Jace Cooksey singled to score Cooper Lenz in the top of the sixth for Northern Lakes (18-3, 10-0 NIL), which faces the Billings Bandits and Yakima Valley Peppers in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic today at Mead High.
Alec Finn singled leading off the bottom of the fifth for Prairie (14-9-1, 5-3), which competes in the Gonzaga Showcase on Sunday.
