Doris Jean Pannell, 82
Doris Jean Pannell, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully June 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born April 19, 1943, in Seattle, Wash., to George and Mildred Bailey. She graduated with honors from St. Maries High School in 1961. Shortly after, March 16, 1962, she married the love of her life, Thomas B. Pannell. They were married for 47 years until Tom’s passing from pancreatic cancer in 2009.
Together, they raised two sons, Thomas B. (Dusty) Pannell of St. Maries and Gregory E. (Amy) Pannell of Genesee, Idaho. Doris leaves behind three grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous joy.
Doris had a long and respected career with the U.S. Forest Service, serving 34 years in roles ranging from dispatcher to Federal Land Exchange specialist. A lifelong learner, she also earned her realtor’s license and pilot’s license — just a couple of the many accomplishments that made her so admired.
In her free time, Doris found joy in planting flowers, socializing with friends, and volunteering. She gave countless hours to organizations close to her heart, especially Children’s Village in Coeur d’Alene.
A private burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Santa, Idaho, followed by a celebration of life July 11, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the St. Maries Elks Hall, 628 Main Ave., St. Maries, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Canopy Village (formerly Children’s Village) in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (www.canopyservices.org), in honor of Doris’ giving spirit and dedication to helping children in need. She will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family and community.
