The Mailbox Club combines security and convenience at Super 1 in Hayden

HAYDEN — Business partners Joshua Peck, Levi Francis and Alexander Carlson know that as cities grow, problems tend to grow with them.

One such issue: mail theft, which Peck says is on the rise in North Idaho.

“(Around here) you’ve been seeing porch pirates or people having their mailboxes tampered with ... people are wanting their privacy back,” Peck said.

And so, the partners started The Mailbox Club, a one-stop shop that offers private mailboxes in a secure office as well as shipping services.

Through a partnership with Super 1 Foods, The Mailbox Club is taking up residency in the stores’ former video departments.

The first Mailbox Club location is now open inside Hayden’s Super 1, and the company plans to expand the service to all Super 1 locations that have the space.

“We joke that we want to ‘make mailboxes great again,’” Peck said.

A Mailbox Club box, Peck explained, has a physical address, whereas a P.O. Box at the Post Office does not.

“Because it's a real address, you can get pretty much anything delivered here,” Peck said.

Through The Mailbox Club, someone can have a physical address in Hayden even if they do not reside in Hayden.

“For one reason or another someone may want a Hayden address,” Francis said. “We even had a guy from Mt. Vernon, Wash., sign up.”

The Mailbox Club can even receive pallets, which Peck said is a big draw for home businesses who may not want supplies delivered to their front door.

They offer three different memberships, and each membership comes with its own perks such as exclusive discounts to area businesses and free ice cream from Super 1.

Because Super 1 is open 24-hours, mail can be picked up anytime at The Mailbox club. After regular business hours, members can access the office using a key fob or Bluetooth connection.

“We’re giving people their time and their privacy back,” Peck said.

The Mailbox Club is also using technology to the benefit of their members.

Incoming mail is scanned daily, and colorized images are sent out so people can see what they’ve received that day. If they’re out of town or otherwise unable to pick up an important piece of mail, they can request that it be opened, scanned and sent to them digitally.

Non-members can also ship from The Mailbox Club; an average-sized package can be shipped for $7.50, according to Peck. The Mailbox Club is a FedEx Authorized ShipCenter and can ship and receive through other major carriers.

• The grand opening for Sierra, with merchandise geared toward outdoor recreation, fitness and adventure gear, is set for March 1. Sierra is opening in the former Bed Bath and Beyond location at 440 W. Wilbur Ave. in Coeur d'Alene.

• Opening May 2025 at 312 N. Fourth St. (formerly Wellness Bar), Copow Foods will bring a new café concept that serves coffee, brunch, organic smoothies, juices, build-your-own micro bowls and organic grab-and-go meals.

• A new natural health spa, Planet Terra, is now open at 6848 N. Government Way Suite 111 in Dalton Gardens. Planet Terra offers mineral soaks, salt and earth therapy rooms, ionic infrared sauna treatments, cold plunges and locally sourced eats and drinks.

• 208Massage&Spa will be relocating from its Midtown space on Fourth Street to 714 W. Appleway in the Asthma and Allergy of Idaho building in Coeur d’Alene. In addition to massage therapy and skin care services, the new location will feature a salt therapy room, full spectrum infrared sauna suite, manicures and pedicures, as well as a couple's massage room and the ability to host spa parties. Expected relocation date is in early spring 2025.

•  A 7-Eleven is taking the place of the former Wells Fargo building at Government Way and Appleway Avenue.

• The Washington Trust Bank Coeur d'Alene branch location on East Lakeside Avenue is undergoing remodel work. The location is open and accessible, but the main entrance and parking lot is closed. Additional parking and a temporary entrance can be accessed on the west side of the building, off Lakeside Avenue. 

• A new catering company, 208 Gather & Graze, is coming to North Idaho. Described as North Idaho's exclusive mobile grazing experience, 208 Gather & Graze curates the perfect menu and on the day of your event serves your guests from a charming grazing cart with fresh enticing bites. Also offering charcuterie and dessert boards.  

• With an opening planned for this year, the new Post Falls Local Market will be at Highway 41 and Hope Avenue. It will include an espresso coffee shop, a San Francisco Sourdough restaurant, a high-quality deli with freshly made breakfast sandwiches and fresh smash burgers. • The Raising Canes restaurant company has applied for a site development at 201 Neider Ave. in Coeur d'Alene. Located in front of the At Home store off U.S. 95, the chicken-chain building will be 3,368 square feet with a dual-lane drive-through. Other potential businesses coming to this area include Nothing Bundt Cakes, Jersey Mike's and a Sleep Number store. 

• A four-story Residence Inn is proposed for Northwest Boulevard between Emma Avenue and West Davidson Avenue by CDA Hotel Inc., the same developer as the proposed Marriott Hotel on Sherman Avenue.

• A mixed-used building "Nonna" is planned for 102 E. Fourth Ave. in Post Falls. Mother-daughter Laura and Kelsey Horn will have commercial space on the main floor with a Miss Dazee's brunch restaurant. The three upper floors will house 33 apartments with 25 covered parking spaces and 18 on-street spaces. Developers include DCI Engineers, Kartchner Engineering, Facet Engineering, HDG Architecture with Michael Mannhard, Aubrey Plaisance and Monique Vang. 

• A new location for Relic Moon at 305 E. Locust Ave. is estimated to be completed in May. 

• A building with six commercial suites and 44 parking spaces is under construction at 9627 Government Way (the northwest corner with Hayden Avenue). • Watch for a major development on property at the intersection of Hanley Avenue and Atlas Road.

• Two new buildings for the Local Markets company are expected to open this year at the intersections of Best Avenue and 15th Street in Coeur d'Alene and Highway 41 and Hope Road in Post Falls. The Markets will have an emphasis on produce, fresh flowers, coffee and products sourced from local vendors with fresh-made deli sandwiches and pastry bars and premium espresso coffees with drive-throughs. Owned by Andy Singh, the stores are architecturally designed to fit the local landscapes and surrounding communities. They will include gas and electric car charging.  

• A new building at 4378 W. Selway Ave. in Riverbend Commerce Park will house Dragon Jacket Insulation.

• A Milk & Honey coffee stand will be at 5273 Government Way.

• A proposed Marriott Hotel will be on about a half-acre at 602 and 612 E. Sherman Ave. The six-story hotel would include 131 guest rooms, 130 parking stalls among the main level and three levels underground, an administration area, a bar, kitchen, lounge, dining area, meeting area, laundry, fitness room and a rooftop patio bar.

• The Marcus Anderson building under construction at 8182 N. Wayne Drive in Hayden has commercial units to be occupied by Ascent Counseling and Marcus Anderson Family Foundation (now at 8382 N.
