PREP WRESTLING: A fight every time with Trojans, Vikings

| February 6, 2025 1:15 AM

POST FALLS — With Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene, it’s going to be a battle, from top to bottom.

On Wednesday, it was more of the same at The Arena.

Seth Martin (190 pounds), Xander Scholes (285), Jesse Villegas (120) and Damion Hamilton (165) had pins for the Trojans, who beat the Vikings 52-19.

“Anytime us and Coeur d’Alene get together, it’s going to be a good dual,” Post Falls coach Jeremy Zender said. “It’s always a good fight and someone always comes out of the woodwork. But the kids are going to fight every time.”

At 98 pounds, Tristan Mendenhall of Post Falls beat Coeur d’Alene’s Micah Miller 7-6.

“Micah is getting better and better,” Zender said. “He took Tristan down early and he had to battle back. It was probably a closer match than it looked. But sometimes, things don’t go the way you think they will, and you’ve got to battle and get a win. And that was good to see.”

“Micah just works hard,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “He’s really small for his weight, but just works hard and will be good down the road. He fights hard.”

Carter Newby (126) and Dominic Prangley (144) had pins for Coeur d’Alene.

“I liked the fight of all of our guys,” Moffat said. “We faced some adversity, with four or five of our No. 1s out. We asked them to go out and fight and score points, and they did a good job of fighting all night. Post Falls is a really good dual team and might be the best team in the state. But I liked the way we fought. We’ve got to keep plugging away and if we can turn some of these matches around.”

Post Falls will compete in the Conrad Garner Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Bonners Ferry High.

Coeur d’Alene hosts Moscow next Wednesday.
