PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Post Falls starts fast, then holds off Lakeland

RATHDRUM —Senior Tyras Blake scored 10 of his 18 points in the first quarter and the Post Falls Trojans went on to beat the Lakeland Hawks 68-62 in Inland Empire League play Tuesday night at Hawk Court. 

Conner Carver added 14 points, Trenton McLean and Jaxon Lysne 12 points each for Post Falls (14-6, 6-1 IEL), which led 26-14 after one quarter. 

Brayden Carrel scored 17 points for Lakeland (9-10, 2-6), Mason Hensley added 12, and Jaron Yager and Ben Roth each added 11. 

“Credit to Post Falls; they’re one of the best teams we’ve faced all season,” Lakeland coach Caleb De Fabiis said. “They play hard, and are well-coached. Our kids battled and competed, and I’m proud of our effort.” 

Post Falls returns to action Feb. 14 at Lewiston in its league and regular season finale. 

Lakeland is also off until its regular-season finale Feb. 14, when the Hawks host Sandpoint in a key IEL game between 5A squads.

COEUR d’ALENE — The host 6A Vikings outscored the 2A Knights of Moscow 25-14 in the third quarter to pull away for the nonleague win at Viking Court, the first under interim coach Arnold Brown.

Senior Stockton Montague and junior Caden Symons scored 12 points each for Coeur d’Alene (9-9), which led 28-22 at halftime before extending the advantage to 53-36 after the third quarter. 

Seamus Wilson scored a game-high 25 points, 15 coming in the second half for Logos (11-7). 

Coeur d’Alene travels to Sandpoint on Monday.

ST. MARIES — Junior guard JJ Yearout scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter for the Lumberjacks in a Central Idaho League win over the Wildcats at St. Maries High. 

“It was kind of a weird game,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “Neither of us shot the ball really great. Both of our horses did most of the scoring and we both just locked things down on the defensive end. Credit to Kellogg, they did a good job of switching up defenses and it took us a while to get going.” 

Yearout also had nine rebounds, four steals and three assists, senior Hayden Defoort had 10 rebounds and sophomore Landon Riberich had six blocks for St. Maries (8-7, 5-1 CIL), which travels to Sandpoint on Tuesday. 

Junior Draeden Taylor scored 19 points for Kellogg (9-7, 4-3), which hosts Wallace on Feb. 12.

HARRISON FLATS — Chris Moore hit five 3-pointers and scored 34 points as the host Warriors defeated the Tigers in North Star League play. 

Riley Ausman added 12 points, Dylan Gentry 10 for Kootenai (3-10, 2-1 NSL). 

“We switched our defense to a man-to-man, and that seemed to really benefit the fast break and the rebounding,” Kootenai coach Tom Tucker said. “A great performance by Chris and Riley, and Logan Strobel’s defense and intensity riled up the team. Dylan played a great offensive and defensive game.” 

Colten Imes scored 16 points, Mike Morgan 12 for Mullan (0-4 NSL). 

Kootenai plays at the St. Maries JV on Thursday.
