Lakeland School District placed under brief 'safety hold' Tuesday morning

RATHDRUM — Lakeland Joint School District 272 was placed under a brief safety hold Tuesday morning as law enforcement served an arrest warrant in the area.

According to an email sent out to parents by school district superintendent Lisa Arnold, the district received the request to put the schools in a safety hold at 9:40 a.m. As of approximately 10:30 a.m., the safety hold had been lifted.

Safety holds require students and staff to remain inside school buildings but teaching and learning activities are able to continue as usual, the email said.

"It is part of our normal practice that when law enforcement is serving an arrest warrant, we put our schools in a safety hold to ensure students are not outside until the arrest is made," Arnold said in the email. "At no point this morning were any of our students in danger."
