Idaho gas prices climbing

| February 4, 2025 1:00 AM

For the first time in recent memory, Idaho’s average price for regular gasoline is the exact same as the U.S. average — down to the tenth of a penny at $3.09 per gallon, according to AAA.

Idaho’s price is about 6 cents higher than a week ago, 2 cents more than a month ago and 20 cents more than a year ago. The national average is about 2 cents less than a week ago, 3 cents more than a month ago and 5 cents less than a year ago.

Kootenai County prices range from the $280s to the $2.90s.

Today, the Gem State ranks 15th in the country for the most expensive fuel, up seven places from 22nd last week. Regional neighbors who are paying more include Washington ($3.96), Nevada ($3.68), Oregon ($3.56), and Arizona ($3.25). Drivers in Utah ($3.04), Montana ($2.99), Colorado ($2.97), and Wyoming ($2.97) are paying less than Idaho drivers to fill up today.

“Crude oil has dropped from $80 per barrel in mid-January to around $73 per barrel in just a matter of weeks,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “The combination of lower crude oil costs and modest fuel demand will hopefully create a calming effect at the pump.”

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is trading about 50 cents per barrel cheaper than a week ago, $1 less than a month ago, and about the same as a year ago.

Here’s a look at Idaho gas prices as of Feb. 3:

Boise, $3.09; Franklin, $3.10; Idaho Falls, $3.05; Lewiston, $3.09; Pocatello, $3.14, Rexburg, $3.08; Twin Falls, $3.12.
