Threat leads to 'safety hold' for Coeur d'Alene, Lakeland schools

| February 4, 2025 3:30 PM

Multiple schools were placed under precautionary safety holds Tuesday morning in response to a threat made by student at Venture Academy.

According to a statement from Venture Academy, at approximately 8:30 a.m., school administrators were informed that a student had made threats against Venture Academy "and possibly another school outside our area."

Venture Academy was placed on a "modified safety hold" at approximately 10:10 a.m. while a search was conducted for the student behind the threat.

Other schools within the Coeur d’Alene School District, as well as schools within Lakeland Joint School District 272, were also placed on safety holds.

According to Venture Academy’s statement, the student was searched upon arrival to the campus, and no weapon was found. The safety hold was lifted after the student was taken into custody “without incident.”

The safety hold required students and staff to remain inside school buildings but teaching and learning activities were able to continue as usual.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is leading the investigation into Tuesday morning’s threat.

"Our School Resource Officers, Detectives, Patrol Officers and Community Action Team directed our resources to prevent any danger to our students or staff," CDAPD said in a social media post. "The student was immediately detained (pending investigation) and there is no additional threat to our schools or community at this time."
