BIBLE VERSES: Do not cherry pick them

| February 2, 2025 1:00 AM

In “Marriage Equality: Do Not Judge,” Ellen Maurer states her objection to a letter she read in The Press that said marriage “is to be ONLY between a man and a woman.” She then references several scriptures that say we are not to judge and condemns President Trump for saying all people are considered the gender they are at conception. I respect Ellen’s right to her opinion, but while she was quick to assert scriptures that say we are not to judge, she neglected to mention verses that describe the traditional marriage relationship.

In Genesis 1:27, it clearly says “God created mankind in his own image …male and female He created them.”

In another passage, God made a woman and brought her to the man to be his helper and his mate. Genesis 2:18-24: “After God created the man, God said “It is not good for the man to be alone…”

In Matthew 19:4-6, Jesus replied to the Pharisees “Haven’t you read that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh…”

And finally, Ephesians 5:21-33 describes the relationship that God intends for husbands and wives, emphasizing that a man “must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”

I will not judge Ellen for her definition of marriage or gender, but I would ask that she not cherry pick the Bible to use scriptures to condemn those who feel differently.
