ISP investigating fatal train-vehicle crash
SANDPOINT — A 63-year-old Sandpoint male has died as a result of a Sunday afternoon collision with a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train, according to Idaho State Police.
ISP officials said the collision occurred at about 2 p.m. at the intersection of West Selle Road and North Boyer Road, north of Sandpoint.
The 63-year-old male was travelling westbound on West Selle Road in a white 2008 Nissan Titan when he struck a northbound BNSF train, ISP officials said. As a result of the crash, the Nissan Titan was pushed a short distance off the roadway, and the train came to a stop after initiating the brakes. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries on scene. No seatbelt was worn.
The road was blocked due to the stopped train for approximately four hours.
Next of kin has been notified and the investigation is ongoing, ISP officials said.
