COEUR d’ALENE — The new year in North Idaho will kick off with the 49th annual Tesh 5K Fun Run, set for Thursday at Atlas Waterfront Park.

For nearly five decades, this event has combined fitness, fun and philanthropy, drawing hundreds of participants.

The run, formerly known as the 5-mile Hangover Handicap on Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive, begins at 9:30 a.m. The scenic out-and-back course follows the North Idaho Centennial Trail, winding past Riverstone and reaching the Harbor Center. Participants can run, jog, walk or roll, and the event welcomes strollers, wheelchairs and even furry friends.

The Tesh Fun Run is a fundraiser for Tesh, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Proceeds support programs that promote independence, self-sufficiency and community inclusion.

Registration, $45, is required. Participants can also look forward to heaters, hot drinks and snacks at the finish line.
