SENTENCING: DUIs treated too lenient
I am writing to express my agreement with the letter from Deborah Fisher published on Wednesday, Dec. 24. I, too, was greatly disappointed in Judge Regina McCrea regarding the “out of custody” sentence given to Katie Knowles who has a “well-documented 25-year criminal history” and was arrested on her eighth DUI.
I, too, have seen the devastation caused by drivers impaired with drugs and/or alcohol. I am aware of such an impaired driver who died after he crashed into the car my daughter was driving. He caused a damaged heart, broken bones, and a need for facial reconstruction as well as paralyzing her daughter who was in her infant car seat in the back seat of the car.
I would like to add that this judge’s sentence is a slap in the face of every law enforcement officer who has arrested a person under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. I also thank law enforcement for doing your job.
