One dead after tree falls into Fernan Village home
FERNAN VILLAGE — A man has died after a tree struck his home early Wednesday morning.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, a tree had struck a residence on the 100 block of Theis Drive at around 6 a.m. Emergency personnel located the 55-year-old inside the residence, who had died as a result of the tree falling into the home and striking the bed where he was sleeping.
Other occupants of the home were rescued without serious injury; the name of the deceased individual has not been made public at this time.
KCSO reminds residents that high winds can cause trees and debris to fall unexpectedly. During wind events, residents are encouraged to stay away from large trees, avoid sleeping near exterior walls when possible, and report hazardous conditions to local authorities.
